I am so happy to work here at Diamond Ridge. It has been a big challenge to be as good as Mrs. Sanchez, but I am hoping with time, I can do better and learn how to serve you better. Please let me know how I can help your kids. Thanks!

Hi Diamond Ridge families! I wanted to share something exciting and near and dear to my heart. Each Monday the whole school participates in a one minute mindfulness exercise- where we all slow down, take a breath and focus on a positive thought. It has really taken me out of my comfort zone(because I don’t love hearing myself over the intercom), but I love the response I have gotten from teachers and students. Please ask your child what they are supposed to do when they focus on their breathing (we put our hand on our heart and one on our stomach, and close our eyes). Ask them if it helps them to let go of negative thoughts or to be kinder to themselves and others. I would love it if this becomes a practice in your homes too- it’s a great tool right before bed or first thing in the morning to set an intention for their day.
We are off to a wonderful start to a great school year. I love our students so much. I have been able to start teaching Mindfulness in a few classes and can I just say WOW! Our children are so incredibly smart and intuitive. I watch them and learn so much from them each time. I have kids say things like: "It makes me feel calm, relaxed and peaceful" and it just fills my heart with joy. We are teaching them to practice self care and that it is important to breathe and just "be" sometimes. They really are so receptive to it because it feels good to stop for a moment.
I hope you will join us on this journey as our partners. Ask you student if they know what mindfulness is and how it can help us all be more connected and kind in a very busy world. I am so grateful for the work you have already put into these amazing little people. If you don't know where to start with mindfulness at home, please look at the websites on my home page, contact me, or do your own search to see how this can fit simply and easily into the little moments at home. Thanks!! Sherrie Welcome back families, I hope you had a wonderful summer and time to reconnect with each other, nature and soak in some rays. I am so happy to announce that Diamond Ridge will be my full time home this year! I won't be sharing my time with another school and I am so grateful to be working here with such amazing kids and families.
This summer I had the great opportunity to take a mindfulness course (yes, this word is all over the place right now), and I am planning to incorporate mindfulness practice into our school a little more this year. If you aren't sure what this means, please check out the main page where I describe mindfulness a little more. What I came to realize as I learned more and practiced it myself is that for children to incorporate this and use the skills, so do we. We need to set the stage and teach by example. I am so excited to be on this journey here, but I am going to ask for your help in the process!! Please ask your kids what they are learning, watch some videos or download some apps on mindful practice (most are free) to help incorporate what they are learning at school. Thanks in advance. As always, contact me if you have questions or concerns about this! Take care and again welcome back!! Sherrie As a parent the job is never done and the questions can be endless. What kinds of things would be helpful to learn more about? What things should I change about this website and make it more useful for parents, student and teachers? Let me know and I will do my best to get the information onto the site! Thanks for your help.
